Background information about the two coins:
British shillings are historic coins that date back to the 18th century when the United Kingdom was known as the Kingdom of Great Britain. The last shillings were issued for circulation in 1967.
The coin's obverse will depict either the United Kingdom's King George V, who ruled from 1910 to 1936, or King George VI, who reigned from 1936-1952. Note that the shilling changed from sterling silver to a copper nickel alloy in 1947, so the date on these coins stops at 1946.
Both rulers face left on the coin, as George V's oldest son ruled for only a matter of months as Edward VIII before abdicating the throne to marry an American divorcee, Wallis Simpson. His reign was too brief for any coins bearing his likeness to enter general circulation.
Britain's lion and crown crest is featured on the reverse along with date and face value of “ONE SHILLING.”
