Description
The TATRA-T4 is a tram manufactured by the CKD factory in Prague. It is a modified version of the TATRA-T3, featuring a narrower body. This tram was operated in East Germany, the Soviet Union, Romania, and the former Yugoslavia, where it was known by the model designations T4D, T4SU, T4R, and T4YU respectively. The original modification of this tram was developed in 1958, and it has been produced both in its original form and in modernized versions.
In Germany, the T4D type was introduced in four former provincial capital cities: Dresden, Halle (Saale), Leipzig, and Magdeburg. It has a capacity of 26 seated passengers and 88 standing passengers. Additionally, the T4D can be coupled with a dedicated trailer, the B4D; the key difference is that the trailer's driver's cab is replaced with passenger seats. After the reunification of Germany, efforts were made to modernize the T4D trams. Most T4D units that have not undergone modernization have been taken out of service.
