Description
The ZIU-10 is the articulated three-axle version of the ZIU-9 trolleybus. The first batch of prototypes was manufactured in 1978. The initially released ZIU-10 underwent testing in Saratov, where it was assembled, and was sent to Moscow for operation in 1980. The appearance, body structure, and most components of the ZIU-10 trolleybus are compatible with those of the ZIU-9.
The main body of the ZIU-10 articulated trolleybus consists of a two-axle main vehicle and a single-axle trailer, which are connected by a Hungarian-manufactured "accordion" (flexible enclosure). A traction motor with a rated power of 170KW is installed under the trailer chassis of the trolleybus, and the ZIU-10 is also equipped with a modern leakage current protection system. Inside, there are 46 seats, capable of accommodating 162 passengers. The doors are electric, and there are three electric heaters inside the carriage to maintain temperature in winter.
In the 1990s, various models of the ZIU-10 began to be exported to the Balkans, Poland, Ukraine, other Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) countries, as well as Greece and even Argentina. However, with the dissolution of the Soviet Union, its production was discontinued.
