2005 S State Quarters Silver GEM Proof 5-Coins Set CA OR MN KS WV States SF Mint

The United States Mint 50 State Quarters program begun in 1999 produced a series of 50 quarter dollar coins with special designs honoring each state.  Five different designs were issued each year from 1999 through 2008 States were commemorated in the order of their entrance into statehood.

Each state theme was proposed, and approved, by the governor of that state.  Final designs were created by Mint personnel.  Circulation coins were made at the Philadephia and Denver mints.  Proof coins were made in San Francisco (source: The Official Red Book).

The portrait in left profile of George Washington, the first President of the United Stats from 1789 to 1797, is accompanied with the motto "IN GOD WE TRUST" and the lettering "LIBERTY" and it is surrounded with the facial value and the inscription "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA"
