Aged Pu-erh Tea Brick

Numi's Aged Pu∙erh Tea Brick is a compressed bar of loose pu∙erh tea leaves. Unlike traditional teas that are oxidized for 8 hours, Pu∙erh undergoes a unique 60-day fermentation process resulting in a bold, earthy flavor with hints of malt. This style of pu-erh can be compressed into bricks and aged, like fine wine, for months, years or even decades.This increases its value and rich taste.

  • Ingredients: Fair Labor Verified organic black pu-erh tea.
  • Brewing Instructions: Each portion may be steeped 4 times. Break off 1 square portion and place in a 10 oz. teapot. Pu-erh should be rinsed before steeping to awaken the sleeping leaves: pour boiling water to fill the pot halfway, swirl for several seconds and pour out the water. Fill the teapot and place a lid on the top; steep 1st & 2nd pots: 2 minutes, 3rd &4th pots: 3-4 minutes.

What is Pu-erh?

Pu-erh (pū-ĕr) is an ancient healing tea known for its medicinal properties and rich taste. Pu-erh’s history began over 2000 years ago when tea was transported along five “Tea Horse Roads”. The first and most traveled road began in the village of Pu Erh, in the majestic mountains of Yunnan, China. In order to maximize their load, merchants compressed the tea. After traveling across the country they were surprised to find that the tea tasted better and yielded more health benefits at journey’s end.

Old-Growth Wild Tea Trees

Numi’s organic pu-erh comes from 500-year-old, wild tea trees in Yunnan, China. The maturity of these trees yields a superior taste compared to younger bushes. It is said that the roots of the wild old tea trees bring forth potent life energy, known as Qi (Chi). These trees are communally owned by the residents of the local villages, ensuring a stable source of income for generations to come. The tea trees are grown in harmony with the primary indigenous forest, promoting biodiversity and forest conservation in the region.
